🧑🏼‍🎓 Eight students, four high schools and a whole lot of leadership—that’s the story behind this year’s Rotary scholarships 🧑🏼‍🎓
In 2026 the Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise Leadership Scholarships were awarded to eight deserving students. Two scholarships were awarded in each of the four Red Deer High Schools.
The purpose of our Club is to enrich lives and brighten futures for children, families and youth. One of the important ways we do this is to offer post-secondary scholarships to High School students. Since we started in 1999, we have supported more than 100 students to advance their education with the Mel Stevenson Arts Scholarship. Mel was a radio personality, artist and founding member of the Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise.
Recently High School councillors asked us to update the eligibility requirements so more students could apply. In 2026 we rebranded the Mel Stevenson Arts Scholarship to the Rotary Club of Red Deer Sunrise Leadership Scholarships. Thanks to successful fundraisers throughout the year, we were able to offer two scholarships in each of Red Deer’s four High Schools. This year’s recipients demonstrated creativity, dedication and or innovation through leadership initiatives in school and/or in the community. Our scholarships are unique; they are not based on academics. They are based on contributions to the community and demonstrated leadership.
For more information and the eligibility criteria please contact the school councillor at your Red Deer High School. Our Club would like to thank the schools for administrating the scholarships and the community for supporting our 50/50 fundraisers.
